Before you begin, make sure you have the sort code and account number of the bank or building society you want to link to your Manchester Building Society account, this lets you transfer money when you need to.

The whole process should take around 10 minutes.

In branch

To open an account in a branch, just bring your payment method and something that shows who you are and where you live.

We’ll usually check your identity electronically. But if that doesn’t work, for example if you’ve just moved house, we might need to see some original documents.

If you open your account in a branch, we’ll give you a passbook. This helps you keep track of your money. You’ll need to bring your passbook or card if you want to take money out.

If you manage your account by phone or post, you don’t need your passbook or card to make a payment. But we do suggest sending it to us now and then, so we can update it for you.
